Strobilanthes attenuata

Grown by: Bruce Peters, San Francisco

Family: Acanthaceae
This Asian species in the acanth family has recently become available in the trade and horticulturists are just learning how to grow it. Bruce grows this as a deciduous perennial that dies to the ground in the winter. With regular water it reliably blooms in part shade with a profusion of deed blue purple salvia like flowers. It has beautiful dark green foliage to set off the flowers. It blooms much of the summer.
