Conservation Horticulture in the 21st Century

Conservation Horticulture in the 21st Century

with Dylan Hannon, Curator at the Huntington Botanical Gardens

Monday, April 16, 2018

Dylan will speak to conservation priorities and possibilities. How do we determine the value of plants in terms of conservation effort and resources? How are plants best kept in cultivation? These themes are narrowed to plants and provenance, or wild origin information. With Botanical riches in gardens and collections today it is more important than ever to develop ways to ensure their widespread use and appreciation. This talk is philosophical as well as practival and includes a number of case histories of ‘charismatic megaflora’ such as Osa pulchra, Brighamia insignis, Dorstenia gigas, and others.
