Call for garden hosts for 2019

Call for garden hosts for 2019

(To host Cal Hort to your garden, contact Mark Delepine)

This past spring 2018 we had four Coffee In the Garden events hosted in member gardens. Thank you to Cal Hort members Carl Meier (in Alamo), Arcangelo (Archie) Wessels (in Vallejo), Kati Gyulassi and Casper Curto (both in Oakland) for having us over! There will be at least one more this fall in Martinez to be posted soon, thank you in advance Ellen Frank!

Most of us enjoy showing our gardens as much as we enjoy chatting with fellow plant and garden enthusiasts. If you decide you’d like to share your garden next year, now is the time to think about what month you’d prefer to have us over. Spring is of course the most popular season for it, but if even more come forward wouldn’t a monthly morning outing to a garden with friends be a nice option? To begin planning to be a garden host, send an email to me, Mark Delepine, at mdelepine@liacook.com

For those who may not know, this is how a coffee event works. The garden host has no responsibility except for having the garden ready to share on the weekend morning chosen. I pick up ready to go coffee from Peet’s (paid for by Cal Hort) and bring a hot water urn and an assortment of tea bags. We, your guests. will bring a little something savory or sweet to share to go with the hot beverages. Generally we stay an hour or so during which we get to visit with one another as well as see and talk to you about your garden. (Don’t worry, none of us remembers the names of all our plants anymore.) Then we head out for a look at a nearby bonus garden, possibly one belonging to someone in your neighborhood you would recommend or else one someone else thinks of. We generally finish up with time to get home for lunch, or stop for it somewhere along the way.
