Sunday, April 28 • 9:30 a.m., San Francisco
Coffee in the Garden of Charlotte Masson will be followed by a visit to the nearby garden of Ted Kipping and the neighboring Sunnyside Conservatory. An additional bonus garden will be available to early risers just ten minutes away. Dr. James W. Budke has invited us to stop by to see his garden anytime after 8 a.m. but before we’re due at Charlotte’s. Ted and Charlotte’s gardens I would describe as plantsman’s gardens. You can read more on Ted Kipping’s garden in the book Gardens of Obsession and at the Harland Hand Memorial website. Charlotte’s own images of her garden from over the years may be viewed in her flickr album and Ted was kind enough to send me these recent images from his garden . But while I’ve visited many gardens with Dr. Budke and his gardener Gina, his garden remains an eagerly anticipated surprise.
Please bring a savory or sweet snack if you can to share when we get to Charlotte’s garden. I’ll be leaving Jim’s garden early to pick up the coffee and start the water heating for tea at Charlotte’s.
Sorry to say but participation must be restricted to the first 20 to RSVP owing to garden size. That means attendance this time will almost certainly be restricted to members.
RSVPs must be sent to Mark Delepine, mdelepine@liacook.com, where you can also let me know if you’d like to host a Cal Hort Coffee in the Garden yourself sometime.
