The Caucasus and eastern Mediterranean Basin are rich in Iris, especially from subgenera Iris (bearded), Hermodactyloides (reticulatas), and Scorpiris (junos). Many Iris from this region are not in the horticulture trade but are likely to perform well in rock gardens or be of interest to those that appreciate a challenge. Carol Wilson has studied the molecular evolution and morphology of Iris for about 30 years and will present a talk on some of the species from Georgia, Turkey, and Syria.
