With public gatherings still out of the question, we are going digital. Please join us this month on our regular meeting day and time from the comfort of your home using the computer application Zoom on your desktop computer, tablet or smartphone. We are hosting Ron Parsons, highly acclaimed photographer and orchid enthusiast, as he takes us on a virtual visit of Mallorca, Spain
Mallorca, the largest of Spain’s Balearic Islands, has many endemic species, including a great number of small orchids. Ron’s outstanding images of the orchids that he encountered are fascinating and exotic. He found many different species of Bee and Tongue orchids, often forming large colonies, as well as other beautiful flowers, including the rarest of peony species, the endemic Paeonia cambessedessii. Ron will be sharing interesting facts about the plants along with stories of his amazing adventure in the Mediterranean.
Ron has been growing orchids for more than 40 years, and has been interested in species orchids for most of that time. He loves to photograph orchids and most other flowers whenever he can, whether on trips to see them in nature or in collections. Indeed, he has more than 80,000 digital images, most of which are of orchids, and he still retains a slide library of more than 100,000 botanical images, of which some 4000 photos that have been published in magazines, periodicals, journals, and books. He loves to travel to see orchids in the wild, and does so as often as possible.
