Don’t take anything for granted about cold tolerance. Many plants from tropical and subtropical regions can tolerate chilly temperatures bette than we expect. Alan La Vergne grows sinningias (family Gesneriaceae), cacti, orchids, and begonias outdoors. A few die in winter, but most survive. The only way we can discover what they can take is to experiment.
